Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are
PulseFeed (“we”, “us”, “our”) is a free news aggregation dashboard available at pulsefeed.app. For privacy inquiries, contact us at mail@pulsefeed.app.
2. Data We Collect
2.1 Data Stored Locally (Your Browser Only)
The following data is stored only in your browser's localStorage and never transmitted to our servers:
- Theme preference (light, dark, or OLED)
- Selected region (NL, US, UK)
- Article card size and column count settings
- Translation preference (Dutch to English)
- Bookmarked articles (up to 200)
- Custom RSS feed URLs (up to 5)
- Cookie consent choice
We have no access to this data. It stays on your device and is deleted when you clear your browser data.
2.2 Analytics Data (Only With Your Consent)
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights to collect anonymous usage data including:
- Pages visited and navigation patterns
- Page load performance metrics
- Browser type and screen size (anonymized)
- Country-level location (no precise geolocation)
This data is anonymous, cannot identify you personally, and is processed by Vercel Inc. under their privacy policy. Analytics are not loaded until you explicitly accept cookies.
2.3 Advertising (Google AdSense)
We display ads via Google AdSense to support PulseFeed as a free service.
- If you accept cookies: Google may use cookies to show personalized ads based on your browsing history. You can manage your ad preferences at Google Ad Settings.
- If you reject cookies: You will still see ads, but they will be non-personalized (not based on your browsing history). Google may still use contextual signals (page content, general location) to serve relevant ads.
Google's use of advertising cookies is governed by their privacy policy. For more information about how Google uses data from partner sites, visit Google's partner sites page.
2.4 Personalization (For You Feed)
PulseFeed offers a “For You” feed that learns from your reading habits to suggest relevant articles. This personalization is powered entirely client-side:
- Your reading history and interaction data are stored only in your browser's localStorage.
- No reading behavior data is sent to our servers or any third party.
- You can clear this data at any time by clearing your browser storage.
2.5 Data We Do NOT Collect
- No account or registration data (no sign-up required)
- No email addresses, names, or personal identifiers
- No tracking across other websites (by PulseFeed)
- No data sold to third parties
3. Cookies & Local Storage
We use the following cookies and browser storage:
| Name | Storage | Type | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| pulsefeed-cookie-consent | localStorage | Strictly necessary | Stores your cookie consent choice | Persistent |
| theme | localStorage | Strictly necessary | Stores your theme preference | Persistent |
| Vercel Analytics | Cookie | Analytics (consent required) | Anonymous usage statistics | Session |
| Google AdSense | Cookie | Advertising (consent required) | Personalized ads (with consent) or non-personalized ads (without consent) | Varies (set by Google) |
You can withdraw your cookie consent at any time by clicking the “Cookies” button in the page footer, which resets your preferences and re-shows the consent banner. You can also clear your browser's localStorage or contact us at mail@pulsefeed.app.
4. Third-Party Services
We interact with the following third-party services:
- RSS Feed Providers — We fetch publicly available RSS/Atom feeds from news publishers. Your IP address may be visible to these publishers when articles are loaded.
- Vercel — Hosting, analytics (with consent), and speed insights.
- Google AdSense — Advertising. Personalized ads require consent; non-personalized ads are shown otherwise. See Google's partner sites page.
- Fonts — Fonts (Geist) are self-hosted and served from our own domain. No requests are made to Google's servers for fonts.
5. International Data Transfers
Some of our third-party service providers (Vercel, Google) are based in the United States. When data is transferred outside the European Economic Area (EEA), it is protected by:
- The EU-US Data Privacy Framework, under which both Vercel and Google are certified participants.
- Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission, which are included in our agreements with these providers.
For questions about international data transfers, contact us at mail@pulsefeed.app.
6. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR Article 6)
We process data under the following legal bases:
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — Analytics cookies (Vercel Analytics) and personalized advertising cookies (Google AdSense) are only activated after you give explicit consent via our cookie banner.
- Legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f)) — Strictly necessary local storage (theme preference, cookie consent choice) is used to provide basic site functionality. Non-personalized ads are served based on contextual signals to sustain the free service.
7. Your Rights (GDPR / EU Users)
Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:
- Access — Request what data we hold about you (we hold none on our servers).
- Rectification — Request correction of inaccurate data.
- Deletion — Clear your browser localStorage to delete all locally stored data.
- Restriction — Request restriction of processing of your data.
- Object — Object to processing based on legitimate interest.
- Withdraw consent — Reject analytics and advertising cookies at any time via the “Cookies” button in the footer.
- Portability — Export your feeds via OPML, or export bookmarks and settings from your browser's developer tools.
- Complaint — You may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. Data Retention
We do not store any personal data on our servers. All user preferences and bookmarks are stored in your browser's localStorage and persist until you clear them. Analytics data (if consented) is retained by Vercel according to their data retention policy.
9. Children's Privacy
PulseFeed does not knowingly collect data from children under 16. Since we collect no personal data, no age verification is required.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when changes were last made. For material changes that affect how we process your data, we will re-request your consent where required.
